Audience Theory Case Study & Target Audience Profile (4)

  1. Audience Profile - rather generalised and light!

Ethnicity: Think about which ethnicity would most strongly relate to the character in your music video, not the lyrics as it is the music video's target audience which is in question here. Clearly white British.

Gender: Again which gender would most identify with your target audience, clearly females who are struggling with possibly exam pressure, the drudger of work or conflicts with their parents. A social group who may find the music video appeal are ambitious and possibly feminists because the performer does not define her dream world in relation to having a male partner. In all her fantasies the performer is enjoying her alternative world on her own terms, thus suggesting a developing sense of self reliance.

Quote any theory from Mr Seal's classes on media and collective identity if appropriate.

A little thin but think clearly about your ideal audience and avoid generalisations. Also media theory you have in Mr Seal's lessons.

You could quote Blumler and Katz: The music video offers audiences an escape from every day problems, ironically the music video reflects Blumler and Ktaz's model re uses and gratification theory.

  2. Case Study: Well organised but very light on media theory which should be integrated into your analysis and not a stand alone aspect in your response.

Generally a proficient understanding of aspects of audience. Do not re-do but it is important to weave media theory into any responses where appropriate into your evaluation and into your external exam questions.
